And I just got a fraud call after going to a gas station 2 miles from home. From a random 800 number. And the CU says don't take calls from random numbers and give them your details. And that is exactly what their "security" department does. Not the main CU number, a random number and they wanted to ask personal questions.Yes, that is there reason. I'm not sure if a more secure system is better or not. Perhaps more money getting sloshed around is better for the economy/banks/retailers, fraud or not. But I just had my fraud charges on my cc removed and they issued a new card. I was surprised how many things I had connected to the card. Sorta a pain to deal with.Absolutely true.Europe has been decades ahead of the USA with payments systems and still is. Fraud is accepted in the USA as part of the cost of doing business and companies do not care how much they inconvenience people who are innocently affected.
The fact that most US websites/card issuers aren't supporting 3DS for online payments is crazy. Card not present fraud is rampant in the US, but the banks have figured out that they will lose money if they make it "harder" for people to spend money on their cards by using chip+PIN or 3DS. They see fraud as a cost of doing business.
I can't think of something more stupid.
30 mins wasted calling the real main number, transferred to "security" department, who tell me Chevron did 2 $1 transactions. The woman even said, those are pre authorizations. Well duh! So much for the "security" department and their fraud detection.
