Where are you getting a full time nanny for two kids for $2k a month? That's like... $11-$12 an hour if you dont even take into account payroll costs. My spouse and I both work full time from home with 2 boys (2.5yo and 3mo). I find we’re both better parents and partners when we have help and support. We don’t have family that live close by or that would be willing to help consistently.
We’re considering hiring a full time nanny for the boys during working hours (~2k/mo). We’re also considering house cleaner ($500/mo). We’re also looking at other ways we can invest our money to help us during this crazy season.
The problem is we’re both savers and have consistently saved ~50-60% of our income so its hard to adjust that savings mentality when what if it will be harder to save down the road?
For those that have walked through the baby/toddler years already did you find life got less expensive after they went to elementary school? Did you feel like you still needed extra help?
Financial context
Gross income: $215 and $90k and annual RSU + bonus annually ~$150-200k
Cash: $40k emergency fund and $80k in additional funds (new car, travel, taxes ect)
Combined investments between retirement and brokerage: $1.2M
529 for boys $30k and $40k
Our average annual expenses are around $100k
Since we both work from home we can be flexible with our work schedules and could manage with 20hrs week at $20/hr. We had a nanny before for just two days so 5 days to us is full time but I should have clarified.
