A dream my wife and I have for retirement in a few years is to spend say 4 to 6 months slowly traveling around Argentina/Chile/Uruguay, traveling by bus and staying in cheaper hotels/guest houses/Airbnbs, just taking it slow and easy and soaking in the atmosphere. My wife is Colombian, so Spanish is her first language, and I can hold my own in Spanish, so the language won't be a problem for us. We have already done slow travel in Colombia, so we know that we enjoy it.
Disregarding airfare, I'm curious to hear from people who have done something like this recently in South America on how much money per day, week, or month you think we should budget? We do not have expensive tastes -- simple pleasures are fine for us.
