I think perhaps the first thing to do is find out what she actually owns.My MIL is having cognitive issues and has no record of any lease deal or even when she inherited the property. The rep from the firm that issued the offer claimed to have everything they needed to complete the deal with only a signature from my MIL.
Perhaps the company offering to buy it can provide that information? If you ask for a written offer, to consider, perhaps that information will be included in the offer?
Or maybe she has a relative who inherited the same thing?
I think it is safe to assume the company is offering less than they think it is worth. But if your MIL could benefit by getting 10 years of rent now, it might be worth considering. Maybe.
My random thoughts. I have no experience.
