First question when buying wood furniture - does solid hardwood matter to you? If so, expect to spend 5K minimum on a small dresser and more for anything larger. Think 1K per dining chair. As you go down to veneered plywood and then MDF, the prices drop accordingly. A well-made veneered MDF cabinet may be totally fine for you, just know what you are buying.
For upholstered furniture, 5K can get you a nice big traditional couch that will last a long time. 10K gets you into territory where a reupholster job in a generation or two would be worthwhile. on the other hand, my 1K Article sofa in the family room is fine for our needs there.
If you like their style, Room and Board is well-made, often in America, and fairly priced. It is not high end furniture polished by masters, but fair and solid.
