I guess the downside of ETFs is that they are investing in futures and hence suffer from contango. Physical investing ‘fixes’ this but comes at a cost.
For me personally gold only makes sense as an end-of-world/crazy inflation hedge. At that point I want to own physical small denominated gold bullion (which also comes with its downsides, most notably very wide spreads when buying/selling).
Agreed with the prior posters, I wouldn’t put gold investments in a Roth.
