Personal Investments • Why is long-term bond acceptable?

I think 70/30 of VTI/VGLT (US total stock/Long treasury) would be a nice aggressive portfolio to ride in retirement as long as you don't get aggressive on the allocation on long bonds. If you lose half from a big rate increase your portfolio is only 15% down from the bonds and now the long bonds are super charged :-P

For someone that looks more at the combined effect of funds.
Hey there - sorry for my ignorance but I'm new to bond investing. I only own VTSAX and some RE. Trying to wrap my mind around bonds as I am 10-20 years from retirement and I read that I should invest in bonds.

When you say the "long bonds are super charged" what does that mean? How does VGLT compare to VBILX, how do they react to changing interest rates?

Thanks!
