Looking for clarification. When I sell my assets, and my husband's in our IRAs, I notice that only some of the money goes into the money market/"settlement fund" and the rest is laid out as a credit. Why is this? Thanks!
How much time has elapsed between the sell, and the appearance of the money in the settlement fund vs. the credit?

If I recall correctly, stocks and ETFs take two days to settle, and mutual funds usually take one day.

If you're dealing with brokerage accounts at Vanguard, then you typically want to pay attention to the "Funds available to trade" number shown in the settlement account area. If this number is positive, then that's how much you can use to buy other investments.

Regards,
