Long time lurker, first time poster.
My family is able to get free health insurance through my wife’s plan.
We are considering switching to a HDHP and HSA through my available plans. Premiums are $150 per paycheck or $3900 per year.
We have 4 kids (8, 6, 5, and 4 months).
Does it make sense to switch to a HDHP to gain the triple tax advantage of the HSA?
We have money saved and could cover health expenses, up to the out of pocket max, in case things come up. Family is healthy and we only go to routine visits, but we’re on the fence as to which route to go. I’m not sure what else we need to consider…
We also plan to retire at 50, ten years from now, so we want to make sure we’re planning well.
Any advice the boglehead community can provide would be great.
