I was a little slow on the uptake. I did not recognize the fund ticker symbols, but now I see they reflect FRED data and not real-world investment results.
I am not familiar enough to know how FRED addresses front-end loads, 12b-1 fees, ER ratios, brokerage fees, bid-ask spreads, taxable distributions, survivorship bias and all the other real world frictions, many of which were greater the further one goes back in time. It’s just a bias I have, but historical comparisons are meaningful to me only if they reflect real-world investment results from real-world investable products.
