Personal Consumer Issues • Hard Drive and Tablet Destruction

I have every hard drive I've ever owned and they quite easily fit in a box that is one cubic foot in space with room to hold the next 20 years of hard drives if not the rest of my life. I have kept thinking at some point I'll get out the drill, sledge, shotgun or torch and take care of them but it sounds like too much hassle. They may very well end up in the recycling stream after my death, still untouched, but I'm not worried about anything being compromised on them. I think the threat is over blown and probably only CIA operatives in a foreign country trying to sell a used computer are probably likely to have any data compromised.
