Personal Consumer Issues • What's your opinion on EV for your tech challenge parents

After reviewing the Tesla and other EV, the other issue may be the updated interface. The Nissan Leaf for example uses a weird looking ball thing for a shift lever. I feel that this is not going to work. My mom gets freak out when the icons on her phone changes. A Tesla with touch screen menu will even be worse. It's better to stick with a lower end model with "old" looking parking brakes and recognizable shift levers.
This is it. I would stick w an ICE vehicle with familiar controls.

I feel for you. Your parents are from PRC? Or perhaps HK? The blinding speed of change in those places, to become some of the most technically advanced societies on the planet (definitely surpassing the UK, and even the USA in some respects). It's happened really since the 1960s.

That leaves people behind. Particularly if your parents did not benefit from the educational revolutions that took place in the 1950s & 60s in urban China and HK at least (however, the Cultural Revolution in turn essentially caused a 10 year loss of progress - many of those people never caught up, arguably).

If one emigrates to a country with a foreign language, one often winds up concentrating one's ties and social activity with other people from the Home Country. I know plenty of Brits in Canada or USA who never seemed to have left "old Blighty". They then found, of course, that you can't go home again - the home country goes its own way, without you.

And thus, technology is a tremendous challenge. My mother never mastered online banking, mobile phones etc. She has never used an ATM. But she had been a telephone operator in the days of manual exchanges. And of course as her memory issues grow ... things get worse. I wouldn't have expected her to be able to plug in a USB.
