+1 for this.You should probably start with an emergency fund before investing.
It is only a personal belief but I wouldn't be too pushy with other people regarding investments. Everyone has different risk-aversion levels; it might sound extreme and heretic, but even index funds aren't made for everyone. Pushing people into strategies and investments that make sense to you but not to them can lead to pretty nasty situations. Just personal thoughts though.
