1)We have had similar situations (USAA, Washington state) and our premiums didn't go up (any more than the rate of inflation).
2)A standard answer to 'should I tell my insurance company about ...': read you policy carefully to see if it says 'you will report ...'. The primary reason I have auto insurance isn't to fix fender benders, or even if the car is totaled. I have it for when I skid on the ice into a van full of just graduated neurosurgeons and get sued for eleventy zillion. If, God forbid, that ever happens I don't want the insurance company to go looking and say 'oooo, you failed to report this fender bender 4 years ago, we're denying coverage for the neurosurgeons'. YMMV, but see what your policy says.
