Years ago my brokerage (TDAmeritrade) kept track of all the Specific ID information even though they were not required by law to do so. It was trivial to sell mutual fund shares "Versus Purchase" which is just another term for "Specific Identification." American Funds should have zero problems with helping you sell shares by Specific Identification, too. Call them (your brokerage or custodian) up and discuss it with them. Whatever is written here at Bogleheads.org may not apply to your specific situation.
