Call me crazy, but I actually believe that some of these companies have algorithms that know how loyal a customer is and a probability of them leaving if they jack up your bill. The way to pay less for internet and TV is to be a disloyal customer. Sign up as a new customer every 12 months to get the new customer pricing. (This is easiest to do if you have a spouse, but can be done even for singles.) YMMV but I've done this with several different ISPs, a bit of work involved but it's always been well worth the savings.
My spouse hates change, and won't change an internet provider, cable company, or cell phone provider if they decide to raise their rates. These companies know this.
I believe a lot of insurance companies do the same.
You're not crazy. They do have ways of assessing the probability you will leave. Clark Howard talks about it all the time.
