While the windshield wiper speed comment isn't particularly accurate, there is truth to the ridiculous screen menus and required menu dives to do what was once a very simple task with a button or knob.So does replacing a roof and upper control arms in a car with fewer than 50,000 miles, fall under section 2? Is this fear mongering? This information comes from a Tesla owner!Another polarizing Tesla Boglehead thread where many:
1. Tesla owners love the cars
2. Non-Tesla owners seem to want to fear-monger and even spread false info
FWIW, I got about 25,000 miles per set of tires out of my last ICE SUV and it developed an oil leak at about 90k miles that would cost about $5,000 to repair. So getting 25,000 miles out of tires isn't horrible IMO (especially if you factor in AWD and acceleration) and not having to worry about costly oil leaks is a nice plus. And Teslas are so much more fun to drive than a typical car.
Definitely not everyone falls into those two groups but I think there's a lot of ignorance / unnecessary fear with many non-EV/Tesla owners.
I've heard/read things like:
5. It takes 3 screens to change the windshield wiper speed
...
The list keeps growing. I think one reason for it is social media and sensationalized news feeds.
This is my single biggest gripe with EVs. I don't know why the manufacturers are so anti- physical hardware based UIs. I know I am not alone with this sentiment as many don't want to drive what is essentially an overly complicated screen based vehicle that lacks any physical knobs and buttons. If you can't plop into a vehicle and understand all its basic functions within 60 seconds, it's a terribly designed vehicle. It's why Teslas were awful rental cars. So many cars now require you take your eyes off the road for an extended period to do what you used to do without taking eyes off road or with just a glance. Manufacturers need to change direction with this UI design or they won't get that to that mass adoption of EVs that they want.
