Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Deciding when to retire...

LAMan1977

I hit the magic number of 60 with my employer in 2019 - which allows access to certain benefits. As others have indicated, there were a lot of changes - and I decided I had enough. I did plan to work part time in 2020 and delay SSA. However I worked in health care- Covid arose , the border closed and had to develop a plan B.

I looked at my stable annual income through DBP plus SSA. I withdraw intermittently from my investments (less than 2%) depending on "extra" expenses usually travel or major house repairs. Intermittent contract work does supplement my base income - which helps with less withdrawals from investments.

I don't regret retiring at 60 as I prioritize my health, ability to travel etc Several family members passed away in early 50's, friends diagnosed with progressive neurological disorders and working in healthcare meeting quite a few people who did not make it to 65 influenced my decision.

I am planning my "swan dance" out of employed work in 2024. I've found certain expenses are much less than I anticipated.

Good luck with your decision.

Linda
