Thanks for the perspective. My options to transfer to a different department are somewhat limited, but I will look into it.
I would stick with the current job and just disconnect emotionally. If you get laid off, re-evaluate retiring. You are making more money now than you think you can at a different job. I would keep the larger paycheck. Things could change at work. Is it possible to look for a transfer to a different department? You can always change course down the road. I'm a firm believer in making the most money and retiring as early as possible.
You are close to being able to FIRE, but expenses may go up until your children are launched. Ours did. Our kids are not launched yet. Once they are gone in the next 6-8 years, our expenses will drop drastically.
