Thanks, great perspective. Yes, our expenses have been rising as kids are getting older. College costs are covered, we have saved $260K so far today and counting for both kids in 529 plan. But, agreed, out of state traveling and expense will add up.
Looking back at our finances, I think I underestimated the cost of kids from age 16-23. From our experience young kids who are not driving, are significantly less expensive than the next few years. I would take this into consideration for your monthly expenses. These costs tend to snowball quickly, from cars to insurance, to incidentals , iphones. Going to college. Maybe they go to college in another state, and you have tuition covered but the costs of going to visit, hotels and eating out, or maybe flying . You can make it work on your budget, but my wife would be upset, if I said, sorry we can't go visit our youngest at college because it is not in the budget for this month.
