During the 2008 financial crisis, the market for TIPS was terrible (Search this forum for discussion from poster Doc for more insights).... Good time to be a buyer, bad time for anyone wanting to sell
I'm assuming through this whole discussion that the 20-year TIPS are being held for 20 years. So their value in the middle really doesn't matter. Yes, yes, it's always possible that you might have to sell at a bad time; that's also true of stocks.
