I was digging around my folder of paperwork to try to see when the smoke detector was installed. My late mother had a newer one installed that I never really noticed even though I lived her the entire time. I was initially worried I and the one from when we first moved in here but that was replaced.
One CO detector is too old. It says manufactured Sept 2015. I thought I bought it in 2016. The other one said manufactured in Nov 2017 so I probably bought that in 2018, so I should replace that by the end of the year.
Going through my paperwork, I haven't found info on the smoke detector but I guess I am due in the upcoming years for a new system. I'll follow this thread.
It turns out we had a new AC and furnace installed in 2005. I would have guessed a few years later.
What blows my mind is that other units apparently got more life out of their original units. I recognize the original condenser outside and id say at least half are still the original unit that were here when I moved in during the late 1990s. I think this place was built in 1993/4.
I'm less concerned with the heater failing as if I don't turn on the heat at all, it'll be 68-72 in here in the winter bc I have a top floor unit I guess. I have/will have proper CO alarms so I guess I'll know if it breaks and puts CO in the air.
It breaking in the summer would be terrible. It gets so hot and id probably buy a portable AC if I had a several week wait as id want to keep my aquarium from getting over 85 degrees.
Edit:
Still haven't found the smoke detector pamphlet but found CO detector. I guess I have a "Kidde" brand. I bought sanw one the second time. It says after ten years from initial start up, it'll beep two times every 30 secs to indicate it's time to replace the alarm. I guess I'm good until 2017-18.
