I'll assume you want to buy more Total Stock Market for your portfolio, otherwise the question is irrelevant: If so, it doesn't matter much unless you think the market will crash in the next 30 days:
- if you buy ITOT today, you can't sell it at a loss for 31 days and TLH by buying VTI instead (well, you can sell it, but will run into a wash sale and won't be able to harvest the loss)
- if you buy VTI to another equivalent to ITOT today and the market crashes within 30 days, you can sell ITOT and realize the loss (because you haven't bought it for 31 days) and buy VTI at the crashed price, so you can take advantage of the recovery.
I'd say if you don't think the market will crash in the next 30 days, buy ITOT so you only have to keep track of only one TSM fund.
