Personal Consumer Issues • Smooth Smart Device Handover at home sale?

Followup:

On the house we purchased, it took me a couple weeks to get everything running properly. I'm still considering revamping the entire WiFi setup as it is not a mesh so the Wifi connection name changes four times as one moves through the house which is a pain. A phone or tablet will hang on to the poor connection from another room instead of switching to the closer, stronger signal.

I realized that some smart devices were not optimal for a house during the sale period as they confused potential buyers and realtors. So, I either shut these off, changed them, or had them running in some useful fashion for showings. For example, I like recessed lights with motion sensors in the bulbs for garages and hallways. But people flicking the switches for these off and on would wreak havoc, so I just replaced them with normal bulbs.

On the house we just sold, I had Google Nest running with four Wifi access points. I didn't want to give the new owners my password but I also did not want to take any devices with me nor let everything break abruptly with a change of password or network name. So, I made a Google Wifi guest network for the new owner for them to use until they have their own setup going. So far so good. It will take them weeks to sort out all the devices, reset, set up their own account, etc. I provided a two-page table of all the devices, apps, where physical devices are located, etc.

I think we all need to put thought into how to simplify our Smart setups for ourselves, our spouses, guests, visitors and future owners.
