Either use per stirpes or list everyone by name. Vanguard allows backup beneficiaries.
That’s how I look at this.
Assuming there is no spouse involved OP should name each child as the primary beneficiary and per stirpes as the secondary in case the named child predeceases OP.
Or, in that case OP is still alive and also could change that particular designation to someone else.
If you have multiple primary beneficiaries, the contingent beneficiary only applies if ALL the primary beneficiaries are deceased, or unable/unwilling to accept the inheritance.
So, if one child dies, the other named primary beneficiaries would inherit the estate, and the deceased child's surviving children would get nothing. Is that what you (or OP) really intend?
