Investing - Theory, News & General • What individual stock has produced the greatest amount of cumulative dividends for you?

I would like to make an investment in an IRA that will generate a lot of dividends every time, so I can use those dividends to make other investments. In your life experience, what individual stock has produced the most total amount of dividends? I frequently see discussions on stocks growing payouts at the quickest rate, or those with the highest yields right now, but I rarely see analysis on how these two factors blend over time.
I strongly advise that you start over and learn fundamentals of investing before placing your money this way. The starting point is the concept of return rather than looking at dividends.

PS For me the greatest producer of dividends I once owned were "shares of beneficent interest" in a gas trust. For a long time at the end it was paying 10% of the typical share price. Then the gas dome was exhausted and dividends, shares, and trust evaporated. Contrary to the advice above I don't have the data to actually compute the return over the years, specifically the actual price of a share at the start or a record of all the dividends.
