I don't know anything about record players other than they do require maintenance. But I pieced together a really good home audio setup for under $2,000 which my friends have called the best they ever heard. I stream everything. My priorities are bass, able to play loud, and the amp/equipment doesn't take up too much cabinet space. Meaning, I didn't want to have multiple large amplifiers, EQs, DACs, etc. Prices are approximate. This is what's considered a 2.1 sound system.

Amp - Fosi Audio BT20A Pro ($90)
DAC - WIIM Pro Plus ($175)
Speakers - Klipsch RP8000F ($750)
Sub - RSL Speedwoofer 12s ($800)

A DAC is a digital to analogue converter, which translates digitally stored information from a laptop, iPod or other such device into the analogue sound that we can hear. It was a huge improvement when I added it to my system. But if you're going all records, you won't need this.
I had a Fosi amp similar to the above if not the same. I just didn’t have the room for my klipsch larger booksjelf speakers.
Sounded great. Class d amps are incredibly good. They also run cool.

I’ve gone the Sonos route with 1 speaker. They do have an amp that can take in streamed music as well as a streamer to pair with an existing receiver/ amp.

I decided to go simpler with lower fidelity - sonos. Sometimes you just need music and having the best quality isn’t important.

I would not recommend Sonos to anyone right now or ever again. They launched a new app a few months ago and turned countless users speakers into bricks. Even if they fix this particular issue it’s clear they do not care about existing users and will do something like this again in the future. Check the sonos subreddit if you want to learn more, it’s kind of crazy to read.

Edit: the CEO posted a public letter today apologizing for whats happened
That is terrible.

I have been mad at apple too for their homepod mini. It won’t setup on my Xfinity gaeteway. It gets most of the way in set up, the gateway admin webpage can see it. But it necer fishes the setup.

I did find a a page where it describe how to attach it to a computer and reset it to-new status.
