Yes, being a co-signer usually does make one responsible for the costs. That's why co-signers might be required if the finances of the primary person aren't satisfactory somehow.
So in terms of your financial responsibility, do what you would do if you were the only one on the lease.
Get the possessions out, one way or another. Maybe a cheap moving company? I assume you don't want to use 1-800-GET-JUNK or whatever those companies are...
Are there others still living there now? Or who have possessions still there?
That could be different, and perhaps disposing of those things should be left to the landlord? I hope that's not the case!
