All fixed income instruments have fluctuating net asset values; it is just that in some cases the holding bank does not allow you to see them, or you will be tempted to redeem a CD early because of "loss".Don't confuse "bonds" with fixed income. There are other fixed income investments that don't have the same risk as bonds.
One way to deal with this issue is to always buy individual bonds and close your eyes when about to look at the net asset value column. It works.
