Personal Consumer Issues • Body-work for Dent in New-ish Car

They have to look for underlying damage as the A-pillar provides a major part of the overall bodyshell safety system. Many vehicles have been totaled for what seemingly appears to be a minor event. Think liability! The cost isn't that unreasonable.

My son had a low mileage VW Jetta totaled for a tree accident similar to yours, the A pillar was the deciding factor.
This is helpful context. Thank you!
One factor in deciding to total a car is the salvage value of the car. With a relatively new car like a Maverick there are not a lot of wrecked Mavericks in junkyards so salvaged parts will bring top dollar especially if some part is in short supply and will take months to buy from Ford. OEM parts from a manufacturer can also be a lot more expensive than salvaged parts.

I don't have a clue what the actual numbers will be but if the parts in a damaged car can be sold for say $25,000 is does not take a lot of damage to make it cheaper for the insurance company to total it and sell it and pay the replacement value than to fix it.

This damage does not sound anywhere near being worth totalling the car but a lot of Mavericks have been totaled for relatively minor damage.
