I just "bought the dip" when I took money that was sitting in my Vanguard acct for a short time (3 weeks or so), planned to buy more VOO/VTI, saw what was happening in the market, decided to wait a couple days to see what the trend was, saw they were down about 6%, went ahead and bought them. Ended up saving 5% off of something that I was already invested in, and was going to get more of anyways. Half a year's more return basically for a typical year. And only 6.5% of our total portfolio that we wanted out of cash anyways, so it wasn't going to be a big hit if they went down some more.
Could VOO/VTI have gone down more? Sure, so that was a calculated risk, one that I don't expect to make more often than a blue-moon.
I guess I am a baaaad person, timing the market like that. Image may be NSFW.
