Personal Investments • Asset allocation 3 fund portfolio

I’ve been doing a 3 fund portfolio (shout out to Taylor!) for some time but have always mimicked a target date fund for my planned retirement date of roughly 2050 (I’ll be 65 at that time).

What I’ve realized after reading Taykor’s book, is that I may be too heavy on international stock. Currently my breakdown is 54% VTSAX, 36% VTIAX and 10% VBTLX. Taylor recommends 20% of equities in international stock. Doing the math, that should be 18% VTIAX, 72% VTSAX and 10% VBTLX.

Curious what you think. Please let me know!
The percentage you hold in international stock is open to wide (and never ending) debate. See link: viewtopic.php?t=409214

Many forum members suggest holding the market weight, which is what the target date funds tend toward.

Holding only 20% is something that Jack Bogle mentioned for those that insist on holding some international stock.

Then, of course, there are some forum members that skip international stocks all together.

The best answer is the one you can stick with through good times and bad. Continual modification of your international stock percentage is probably not the winning strategy.

Regards,
