I'm not sure I understand. These are "assist" and not meant to keep you in the center. When you turn off this feature, what happens? Does your car drift left? I'm gonna guess that it does and that cars go further left to get around you even when you have this feature off.
Newer cars often have lane assist AND steering assist. Names vary. One prevents lane departures and the other goes further and actively centers and steers car in lane. You have one or the other or none engaged. Steering assist (or whatever a given manufacturer calls it) works with adaptive cruise control and will keep car centered in lane and actively steer through corners often for hundreds of miles without a hiccup. The systems do have limitations and can hiccup or not be able to handle certain situations. That is sort of the scary part. Something that mostly does what you expect except occasionally when it doesn’t.

Otherwise, vehicle will essentially drive self in lane within limitations of the system. It’s like you are just along for ride. The OP describes a situation that sounds unusual if the Honda system is really active steering assist and properly engaged.
