Personal Finance (Not Investing) • FIRE at 42?

Some do get actual fun part-time work which qualifies for health insurance at public/private employers like city recreation programs, state parks, community organizations and small companies (e.g. ballet instructors). The fun job insurance might even have lower deductibles and lower out of pocket expenses than ACA's, but the employee's share of the premium might be higher compared with ACA plan premium with subsidies.

Before the update from the OP, I (incorrectly) guessed the "fun" job was cutting down highly skilled work to part-time to handle lighter/more interesting but less lucrative duties of a field. Now the update shows that it is a major employment change. In that case:

Long term care plan is self-pay? If out of your career field for a dozen years and no longer hireable at the same level. Then one spouse in 50s suddenly requires years of major care which consumes a sizeable portion of the retirement accounts relatively early in retirement. That could be precarious if market hasn't been kind. Consider staying involved with your industry field in a part-time role.
My "fun" job is a complete and total abdication of my current line of work and finding something that interests me on a completely different level. I have some ideas of what I'd like to do and I only need something that pays $15-20/hour. I'd be comfortable working at a GameStop, delivering pizzas, working in a mall doing retail - all things I've done in the past and feel I wouldn't mind now.

My long term care plan is retaining ACA coverage so I shouldn't expect financial ruin even if one of us runs into a major care scenario. That's what insurance is for, right?
Long term care can be covered by LTC insurance or self-pay. Doubt ACA insurance and company insurance plans cover in-home daily health care workers or facility stays for a person who had an unfortunate sudden medical condition leaving them immobile for rest of life. No one to sue.
