yesI think you're misunderstanding the satellite feature. Since you didn't have your iPhone within connection range of your Apple Watch, having an iPhone 14 or later with the emergency SOS via satellite feature would have made absolutely zero difference. Your phone could have connected via satellite, but your Apple Watch had no connection to your phone.the iphone link to the apple watch for emergency fall etc EMS call feature was a big thing for me. I had a bad fall awhile back and it was in back of the stables. i didn't have my iphone. if i had an apple watch with the emergency feature it would have helped a lot. That's what motivated me to upgrade my iphone 7 to the 14 at that time. until then i had no interest in the apple watch.

OTOH, If you'd had a cellular-capable Apple Watch and you were in an area with cell coverage, then that would have enabled you to, say, call 911, regardless of whether your phone was the 14 or earlier.
after that i got the series 8 apple watch with cellular
which doesn't need an iphone for calls.
Also upgraded my iphone 7 to an iphone 14 pro max
