Investing - Theory, News & General • Reset 4% withdrawal floor if portfolio increases in value?

I think it is the rare person that actually follows any kind of 4% (or X.YZ%) withdrawal scheme for their retirement withdrawals and spending. They might have something in the back of their mind, but I think it is likely that withdrawals vary in non-describable ways for folks that have a portfolio to withdraw from. If what I think is true, then one can discuss to their hearts content all kinds of schemes such as those mentioned. Maybe that will be the next sequel in a Multiverse movie?
I would have a hard time training my house to not have something go south all of a sudden and require a major expenditure.
But surely if your portfolio is down AND your house suddenly requires a major expenditure, you might defer that expensive vacation or car replacement that was originally in the budget? That's the point.
