Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Should we tell charities that they are in our will?

I think there can be benefits to speaking with an appropriate person at a charity you are considering as a beneficiary. I’ve done so, and:
  • Had a meaningful conversation that helped me further evaluate the charity
  • Learned more about the organization’s needs and what stipulations would be reasonable vs. unhelpful
  • They were able to document how any funds from me should be used (in this case capping x% for administrative expenses)
  • I now get an additional regular email with a bit deeper info about the work of the organization
  • I have a person I can call with questions or to share my thoughts
All this happened without me making any commitments or discussing amounts.
