Portfolio
* You need a simple, diversified portfolio that aligns with your tolerance for risk and will endure for the long term. Typically, this can be accomplished with very few investments, such as:
* Total US Stock Market (VTI)
* Total Intl Market (VXUS) - some people are not interested in Intl. For those who want it, the current advice is no less than 20% and not more than 40%
* Total US Bonds (BND) - there are many options, but this is popular. I have found bonds to be more complex than stocks and many people were surprised how bonds performed during the most recent bout of inflation. You should not invest in something you do not understand.
* Total Intl Bonds (BNDX) -this is much less common, but I have it in my own portfolio and simply share for interest. I give it the same split as my stocks (80/20).
Your investments are not very diverse:
* S&P 500: concentrated.
* Whole Life: as already mentioned, usually not a good investment. I used to have one my Dad bought me while in college. Sold once I learned better...you should do your own research and consider same.
* Speculative Investments: I call this the "guessing and hoping" part of your portfolio. To each their own...but no thanks.
Your Questions
1. Whole Life: as noted above.
2. Conservative?: As mentioned, you need a simple, diversified portfolio that will endure over the long term. Thinking about what makes sense "right now" is not where not what you want to be asking yourself.
