I mean, that is essentially what is happening in a TDF anyways, you just aren't seeing it. Bonds go up and are rebalanced into stocks, but you are selling evenly. You are "benefiting" from the run up in Bonds the same in both.

Unless you are saying that in the two bucket system you allow them to drift out of your allocation even after you "draw down" from the one you want to sell. But that's a totally different thing, closer to something like a momentum play
