I had a 99 corolla until 2012 when DH forced me to sell it at 150k miles because he refused to have our second child in the "deathtrap." No LATCH or side airbags. I sold it to a mid-50s teacher I bet she still has it. I loved that car. Bought it used 1 year old so basically new. It was a tester model at that time.
I have 2015 sienna now bought 2 years old with 105k miles. I will keep it to 2030 when the kids finally launch for college, or maybe i'll really keep it until forever. I only drive it for carpools now. I have a cute subaru impreza 2011 i also bought used. DH has a tesla also bought used.
Keeping cars forever? No. Keeping cars until they stop getting totalled and we're forced to buy it. Only car we got rid of willingly was our 2010 subaru outback which my mom still has and it's going strong, because I needed the minivan. NOT because it was bad. That was in 2017.
Pretty lazy, we seem to need a new car from "accidents about every 8-10 years." Something freak happens and our cars are "totalled" by insurance. I might buy another used car in 14 months when DK1 starts to drive and i need a new fun daily driver.
