Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Term Life - How much do I need?

I'm in the camp of insuring your income, not just covering your debts.

Many people around here will want you to keep your spending fixed while your income goes up to $500k and bank the rest since that is what they do.
I'm gone 8-12 days a month. If I'm left alone with a kid or two and my wife is gone I will need some sort of care for them for let's say half the month.
Not to throw more numbers at you or to complicate things but there are social security survivor benefits that will offset some of what you need should you or your wife die while the kids are still minors. If the unfortunate should happen, don't forget to claim this.
