You are right, as usual.I agree with you, Rocinante Rider. Both parties have to know how this works in order to get the information exchanged properly.
The trouble is that many tax-payers expect the tax-preparer to know the process and ask all the right questions. And that frequently does not happen.
When the tax-payer just thinks "Oh, I'll let my accountant worry about that part"...things may not go well. But that is exactly how many tax-payers think.
