Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Joining a "non-profit" board, what are the cons?

In today's day and age it seems there are more cons than pros with getting on any board! Really sad!

Drama, liability, and time suck all come to mind as cons.

Yup. I have been on a lot of boards and currently down to one. Never say never but hopefully I'll never be on one again! The incessant complaining by people who don't actually step up to do the job is insane. Now, with the internet, I see what my local HOA board puts up with and it is seriously insane what people say ABOUT the board members! Borderline harassment by people too lazy to get on the board themselves and the board members, of course, are unpaid! Getting bashed for doing a totally thankless job. No thanks.
