I've found this thread interesting, thoughtful, and informative. While I'm comfortable managing my finances and investments for now, I especially appreciate the posts by boomer543 (the OP) and bertilak, explaining why they've chosen the PAS route. Those who are questioning their decisions seem to focus on the dollar costs, but both of these bogleheads emphasized the peace of mind and financial security as they move forward in their lives, recognizing that eventually (and hopefully far in the future) their bodies and/or minds will fail.

While minimizing costs is recognized as part of the bogleheads philosophy, I think that an even more important tenet is to avoid catastrophic mistakes with your and your partner's finances, such as making a foolish investment or falling prey to a scam. By taking the PAS route, it seems that one can greatly reduce those risks (and the gnawing fear of those risks). I can appreciate that the modest cost is well worth it for those who are financially comfortable and who recognize that they and their partner will not always have the ability to avoid potentially devastating mistakes.
