The original verbiage of this section seemed to refer to edbs as “exceptions”. I’ve gone in some places and inserted “(eligible designated beneficiary)” in some of those cases. The section could arguably benefit from a rewrite but I’m not up for that.

That helps some! I understand not wanting to do a full re-write.

My original takeaway from Secure Act was that all non-spouses had to empty an inherited IRA in 10 years. Once I inherited an IRA, I started to research the rules and discovered that I qualified for the stretch provision since I qualified as an EDB. I’d not seen that mentioned much so it came as somewhat of a surprise.
