Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Advantages of having an American Express card in 2024?

Amex Platinum is a $150 better than break-even for me with the CLEAR, Uber, NyTimes, and $200 airline fees covered. Plus, it's my highest (5%) travel rewards card.
I'll just say that I find CLEAR increasingly less useful. I haven't used it in maybe a year, every time it has been an option the straight TSA Pre line has been the same or shorter. The only reason I still have CLEAR at this point is I might as well since it is doesn't cost me anything more since I am paying the for Amex Platinum anyway but I currently assign zero value to it.
I travel often. Clear was worth maybe half the cost at first. Now it's worth maybe $20. I get it for free, credit card or not. But I would not pay my own money for it.
Why do you get it for free without a credit card? I've never bothered with clear. Just use pre check.
It's one of the benefits of being a working stiff.
