Personal Investments • Fidelity $100 ETF surcharge??

Please help me understand the Fidelity $100 ETF surcharge.

I understand the retail level investor surcharge only applies to ETFs that I'll never use, but I read that other firms agreed to "absorb the cost".

Something doesn't make sense. Most of my ETF trades are very small bi monthly purchases when I get paid. I may only buy a few shares and with the small % I may only buy 1 share of AVDV and AVUV at a time. Both of those are priced at less than $100 per share.

Will Fidelity really be charging Avantis $100 PER TRADE when I buy 1 share of AVUV and AVDV, EACH?? That seems beyond greedy of any investment I've seen. I cannot be understanding that correctly.

If that's the case, I'm done with Fidelity for ETFs.

Vanguards ETF platform is inferior to Fidelity, but it still functionally works and is far far superior to Merrill Edge, which has way too many restrictions.
Can you provide a link to whatever you read that suggests this?

If these are ETF's you never plan to buy, why would you leave Fidelity over this, even if it is true?
