We really struggle with this. For us, the best thing that has happened is when someone in the neighborhood started a Buy Nothing/Sell Nothing facebook page. Now, whenever we have something excess, we post it on the page. Someone else immediately asks for it, and we are happy knowing it has gone to a home where it will be used and enjoyed.
