Personal Consumer Issues • Car brake lights won't turn off after install of new battery

Get a trickle charger, one that plugs into a wall outlet if you have one nearby.
If you don’t have a wall outlet nearby then you can get a solar trickle charger that you can attach to the battery or plug into the cigarette lighter but most car cigarette lighter are inactive until the ignition key is turned which won’t work.
I use a solar trickle charger on one of my cars that isn’t used much. I bought a connector to plug it into the OBD2 port which is active with the key off, works good so far.

I wouldn’t disconnect and reconnect the battery to stop it draining especially if your car has memory functions which most do these days.
I agree that a trickle charger is better, and disconnecting the battery is suboptimal. If disconnected, you'll probably have to drive it for a few days to put the car's computer through its diagnostics before you can take it in for emissions testing (for example, to get the car's registration renewed).

If you were going to disconnect, you'd want to put in a $7 disconnect switch. People use them as a kill switch to keep their car from being stolen, or to stop leakage current on rarely-driven vehicles. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/CZC-AUTO-Disconn ... B08C7KBG31
