+1. Our other retirement income more than covers our living and income tax expenses, so our RMDs are "extra". Since we have to take them anyway, we use QCDs to reduce the taxes on them, and to support the charities we value. I use a spreadsheet for our income and expenses that goes to age 100. We have already done some Roth conversions, but to assess our "space" for future conversions, I made sure our remaining IRA balances, even if we make it to age 100, will be large enough to cover our future projected QCD gifts to charity.I think another consideration is “how charitable are you feeling?” We had been doing some Roth conversions, but then for a variety of reasons felt that we had enough saved to want to use our traditional for charitable giving.
